In October 2018, FINRA rolled out a new streamlined examination process for professionals in the financial securities industry, broadening the career opportunities for those who certify. This exam is the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam and is the new standard.

All business majors should consider taking the SIE course, even if you are not ready to move on to the SIE exam. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) is an independent, nongovernmental organization that writes and enforces the rules governing all financial service professionals working in the U.S. To become registered by FINRA, professionals are required to pass qualification exams to demonstrate competence in their industry.
