Tarrant County is poised for growth – do you have the workforce resources you need?
Welcome to the first in a series of blogs from TCC Corporate Solutions & Economic Development. I am excited to kick off this installment with a discussion on trends occurring in Tarrant County and the surrounding North Texas area, and how they are impacting workforce development.
First, it is important to note that Tarrant is in full-on growth mode, despite the economic impact of the pandemic. Tarrant is among the largest counties in North Texas, joining Dallas, Collin, Denton and Ellis, and is one of the fastest growing counties in the state, along with Wise and Kaufman counties.
According to bestplaces.net, the Tarrant County job market increased by 2.7% over last year, despite COVID-19, and future job growth over the next ten years is predicted to be 40%, which is higher than the United States average of 33.5%, according to bestplaces.net.
What is behind this surge? Tarrant County’s growth is largely due to net migration – new companies and employees moving into the area, as well as natural increase, according to the Texas Demographic Center at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Indeed, bestplaces.net cites Tarrant County as an attractive place to relocate because it has:
- A below-average unemployment rate of 3.5% (U.S. avg. is 3.7%)
- Affordable labor with the average salary at $57,727
Low-cost real estate, with the average median home cost at $218,300
Eighty six percent of the population are also high school graduates or higher, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Combine that with Tarrant County’s proximity to DFW International Airport, as well as access to a robust system of highways, rail, and bus transportation for commuting, and it is a winning proposition.
